Well, it seems it to me. I've decided to overcome some of my shyness towards writing. How? By doing something crazy and writing a short story. It was an idea I had quite a while ago. A little project to help me get more confident in writing. Oh, I can write, but I always put it off and avoid doing it. So by trying to write something to fit my pieces of artwork (or vice versa) I have something to encourage me and put some enjoyment into writing.

I've got the story outlined already (hopefully :P) and I'll aim to keep the chapters really short. It will probably only contain 7 or 8 chapters in total but I'll try and add 2 pieces of artwork for each one. Just wish I could do full illustrations.

If I enjoy it enough I might try for another. :D

Is it worth it?

All the hard work we put into making art?
Well, hopefully! But I've got to manage my time better, and my motivation.
Using the demo of Cinema 4d R12 to make an entry for the Eve Online Contest. Cinema 4d is still as good as I remember it. It's one of the few 3d modelling programs that I can get my head around. Works really well too. The demo is a bit annoying though, as it does not seem to be saving my screen layouts. It's got some great features, such as a deeply useful physics simulator and joints system. The only grip I have with it, is the same one I have with all 3d programs. That's the inability to create a polygon, or object ontop of an existing polygon. The only program that lets you do this easily is Google Sketchup. I find the "draw on poly" or "snap to poly" tools invaluable. It's a pity it is not included in more software, or the Google Sketchup does not include all the other tools to add to it.
Might do a second submission in Sketchup, and compare the speed of development, and the quality of the result.

CS5 is great! Love the new realistic paint and brushes. Just wish my rig could use them without struggling. Some of the new tools are rather gimmicky (3d text what?) but most are rather helpful. Intelligent fill is not perfect, but can be really helpful for removing tramlines etc. Push pins are fun for messing about. I've not had much time to try it out in depth, but it's still Photoshop in there, so more a refinement than an overhaul. Although, there is so much in there now, I know why they call is Complete Suite. I just hope Photoshop Elements has the new paint tools as well...

Second try?

Ok. I did not manage to get 30 submissions in 30 days. :(
Things did not quite go according to plan. So I have run out of time in the trial of Photoshop CS4.
The good news is, Photoshop Elements is just as good! So I am running the 30 trial version of that.
Everything that is needed seems to be there in Elements. Although the layout is slightly different to CS4. It is also missing a few more detailed tools. Such as complex brush options and individual settings for Wacom. However, if I import others customer brushes and keep to basic tools, it should be all I need. I may even purchase the full program at a snip over £50 it seems a bargain compared to £500+!
